Name of a song? singer?
According to my Joel Whitburn book, "Mama's Little Girl" was performed by "Tavares" in 1974 (USA). The information below applies to Australia.

Linda George had a No. 4 hit with 'Mama's Little Girl', which was released in AU, on 1st Sept 1974.

Original Artist: Dusty Springfield

Song: Mama's Little Girl

*Please Note:
The Lyrics in this version, seem to be slightly different to those in the version, performed by Dusty Springfield.

"I aint Mama's Little Girl no more
baby you're the first to know
I aint Mama's Little Girl no more
I took a little time to grow

It's gonna be worth the waiting, the anticipating

I'm not Mama's Little baby no more

I took the ribbon from my hair, and I'm letting it all hang down
If you're looking for the same old me, gotta tell you that she's left town

Dont try to call the number baby, you're gonna get no reply
Cause suddenly I'm changing, I'm finally rearranging

*Chorus:

I ain't Mama's Little Girl no more
Baby you're the first to know
I ain't Mama's Little Girl no more
I took a little time to grow

It's gonna be worth the waiting, the anticipating

I'm not Mama's Little baby no more

And I've been everyone's best friend,
someone they could tell their troubles to
I found they never notice me, all the pain that I was going through

I've seen the lonely side of living, I'm never gonna go back there again
Coz that old me is dying, tonight there's no denying

Chorus:

I ain't Mama's Little Girl no more
baby you're the first to know
I ain't Mama's Little Girl no more
I took a little time to grow

It's gonna be worth the waiting, the anticipating
I'm not Mama's Little baby no more"

(Short Break)

*Chorus till fade

====================

***Please Note:
The below lyrics are from the Original Version of this song, performed by Dusty Springfield, and are *NOT*
sung in the above version, performed by,
Linda George. (Except for the Chorus, of course!:)

"In this day of liberation, I'm lookin' to find myself
What's the use of bein' patient, you ain't goin' nowhere

Got my own two step together, and I want the first slow dance with you

I just saw Venus risin
and I guess I'm realizin'

*Chorus:

I aint Mamas Little Girl no more
baby your the first to know
I aint Mamas Little Girl no more
I took a little time to grow
Its gonna be worth the waitin, the anticipating
I'm not Mamas little baby no more"
