|One Hit Wonder (I think)|
Trying to find this song has been bugging me for Years.
Okay, it came out in the 70s, during the time when those funny story type songs were popular, like The Streak, etc.
I don't know the name of the song or the artist, but it was a story sung in the first person about some guys, or one guy( with long hair) who was on his way to L.A. and had to go through Alabama or some hick town and had a flat tire. Some of the lyrics are "I stuck my hair up under my hat, told the bartender I had a flat, would he be kind enough to give me change for a one?"
He noticed one of the good ole boys had green teeth and they were alll a bunch of rednecks. Then when he started to leave, his hair fell out and they recognized him as a hippie and started after him. "I kicked old green teeth right in the knee." He offers a high speed chase to get out of there, "Mario Andretti woulda sure been proud of the way I was moving when I passed that crowd coming out the door and headed toward me in a trot." He concludes his anthem by saying that next time he will "get to L.A. via Omaha."
Any clues? Thanks!
